A 12th Century limestone High Cross which stands 11 feet high. The east face is dominated by a figure of Christ in a long robe and triumphantly stretching forth His arms. Beneath Him a bishop with a mitre and volute crozier, probably representing a local saint, Tola, who founded a monastery in the 8th Century. The hole is where the right hand, a separate carved stone, was attached but is now missing. This cross is inspired by an actual carved stone monument in Ireland. The design is first hand carved by the artist in clay or wax and then a mold is made from the original carving. The molds are cast with a sturdy cast stone material and a strong wire loop for hanging is part of this cross. After cleaning, the cast piece goes through six steps of sealer and color that gives these crosses their distinctive color. For hanging indoors or outdoors. McHarp ………. Crosses with meaning. Handcrafted in the USA. 12.5″ x 5″. Handmade products – No two are exactly alike, images and color may vary slightly from actual products.
